MEDITATION AND MUSIC
Andrew Barker

Sound and spirituality have always been connected. From chants and drums to violins and sitars, choirs and orchestras, people have expressed their spiritual experiences in music. Often an intrinsic part of spiritual practice, it can be a wonderful aid to meditation. We will listen to music from around the world and experience its various effects. Andrew has hosted our popular Sunday morning meditation group for many years.

THE TEN PARAMITAS (Part I)
Naftaly Ramrajkar    Back to top

HPB quotes "The Six and Ten transcendental virtues, (the Paramitas), are not for full-grown yogis and priests alone, but for all those who would enter the Path." Differently named and numbered in diverse traditions, the paramitas (Perfect Virtues; Great Perfections) are metaphorically described as the "golden keys to the portals along the hard and thorny way to Jnana."(The Perfection Beyond Cognition of Enlightenment).

Naftally, a longtime theosophist, begins with the framework outlined by H.P. Blavatsky, founder of the current Theosophical Society, illuminating her points with correlated descriptions from Buddhist, Taoist, Sufi, American Transcendentalist and other related sources.

Let us stretch our intuition and seek to understand these subtle and vital qualities essential in the life of the spiritual seeker. Although a two part series, each part is complete. Attendance at either or both sessions is welcome.

Sue has worked for over 25 years doing family, marital and individual therapy. She is author of Realizing the Self Within where she uses everyday language to explain spiritual concepts.
