Parking can be a problem, so please come early! A life-long Theosophist devoted to theosophical service passed from the earth plane recently at his home in Seattle, the city of his birth. John Kunz was a 4th generation Theosophist, past N.W. district director, and served on the Orcas Island Foundation board for many years. He had been a valued consultant and advisor to the national leadership of the Theosophical Society for decades. John also gave valuable assistance to the Pumpkin Hollow Farm retreat center in New York, and to Indralaya on Orcas Island, Washington. He carried on the tradition of service practiced by his parents Dora and Fritz Kunz, who were among the original founders of both camps. For 20 years, he was vice president of Cuisenaire, a maker of innovative and highly effective math education materials, a company he helped launch. John was a Fulbright scholar to India, held a degree in Economics from Harvard, and earned an advanced degree in Social Psychology from Columbia University in New York City. He was noted for his wise counsel, and possessed vast, encyclopedic knowledge on a staggering array of subjects. He was widely read, curious about most everything, and was a deep thinker. John was uncommonly devoted to his family, leaving behind his beloved wife Aino, son David, daughter Kristina, many dear cousins and other relatives scattered across every continent. He leaves behind a huge footprint, and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. We wish him the very best as he embarks upon a new adventure. He will never travel alone. |
