Second Saturday Meditations with Andrew Barker

1/14/2012, 2/11/2012, 3/10/2012
“We know the outer world of sensations and actions, but of our inner world
of thoughts and feelings we know very little. The primary purpose of meditation
is to become conscious of, and familiar with, our inner life. The ultimate
purpose is to reach the source of life and consciousness.” - Nisargadatta
Maharaj
Please join us for a series of brief explorations in meditation on silence and
sound. A comfortable and supportive environment will be provided for all levels
of experience. Andrew Barker led the popular Sunday morning meditations for many
years. He is a long-time student of Theosophy and has been actively involved in
various Buddhist and Hindu traditions.

Kali & Mary: The Dual Nature of the Mother Archetype
Kyle Lee Williams
There are at least two aspects to every archetype and the Great Mother is no
different. She is hellish and angelic, war-like and sublime. Going both east and
west this lecture will compare the character of the Hindu goddess, Kali, and the
Christian figure of Mary, the mother of Jesus, side by side. We will look
closely at what Jung found so significant about images of the sacred feminine.
Exploration of these two figures can help us gain insight into our relationship
with the personal mother in our psychology, as well as insight into our
relationship with the archetypal Feminine, the Great Mother.
Kyle Lee Williams, MA, LMHCA, is a Jungian therapist in private practice. She
teaches comparative religion and psychology at Antioch University and works with
individuals interested in discovering the wisdom of the psyche first hand as it
manifests in their own lives.

My Two Near-Death Experiences
Doris Bean
Doris, who’s a warm and engaging person in her late 60’s, was once a confirmed
agnostic. In 1999 she arrived at a Seattle hospital with a non-functioning
immune system. Alone in her room, and literally feeling herself dying, Doris
uncharacteristically yelled “Help!!” with all of her being. In her openness to
the Greater, Doris entered her first NDE. Ten years later Doris again left her
body during an angiogram when her coronary artery separated. In the Cath lab
room she now saw spiritual beings from floor to ceiling assisting the lead
cardiologist. Join us to hear more, including how these NDEs affected how Doris
lives her life today.

Neti Neti – Not This, Not That: Talks on Enlightenment, pt. II
Andrew Barker
Approaching an understanding of what enlightenment is often better done by
looking at what enlightenment is not. We will discuss common conceptions and
misconceptions of enlightenment according to Nisargadatta Maharaj, Ramana
Maharshi, Ramesh Balsekar, and others. We will also discuss how enlightenment is
described, in terms like Moksha (“release”), Shunyata (“emptiness”), Nirvana
(“blowing out”), Kaivalya (“solitariness”), and other names for enlightenment.
Andrew Barker is a long-time student of Theosophy, as well as being actively
involved in a variety of Buddhist and Hindu traditions.

The Soul
Stanton Stevens
In even the best sources of esoteric information, the information about the Soul
is hard to sort out, and is never definite, simple, or clear. Henry Laurency
points this out and then gives the information that is needed to make sense out
of all the rest. Most importantly, he answers the question "Why, if I am a
divine, powerful, wise, immortal Soul, am I also a confused and relatively
powerless human struggling to make sense of this world, making mistake after
mistake?" The answer has an unexpected aspect to it, and may be hard to accept,
but when one has realized that Love is behind all of the structure and plans, it
becomes clear.
Stanton Stevens is a long time student of the esoteric teachings, and has spoken
before on esoterics and Laurency particularly. He leads two Rainbow Bridge
meditation groups, in Seattle and Port Townsend, and is a software engineer.

Madame Blavatsky - Her Life and Intentions
Gordon Strong
Throughout her life Madame Blavatsky ceaselessly communicated to all the fruits
of her inner life. She was a pioneer of spiritual unity, proposing that all
religions had at their essence a common purpose. She set about achieving this
laudable aim largely through her insightful writings. A tireless and courageous
traveller in Tibet, Siberia and India, this extraordinary figure constantly
demonstrated the power of her own personal faith and beliefs. The founder, with
Olcott, of the Theosophical Society, Madame Blavatsky must be assigned her true
position as a cornerstone of metaphysics in the twentieth century and our own.
Gordon Strong lives in England and has published books on the Arthurian Tales,
Sacred Sites, 'The Golden Dawn', and Madame Blavatsky. He combines his
scholarship and intuitive gifts to produce an insightful perspective upon his
researches. www.gordonstrong.co.uk

Down the Worm Hole, Towards the Light
Greg Wilson
In the past 20 years Greg has interviewed more than 500 near-death experiencers.
Like many of us Greg discovered he had acquired several understandings of what
life was about, that were oftentimes active in him and conflicting
simultaneously. However, diving deeply into and embracing the world of the NDE
as one piece of the answer to the Bigger questions, he found himself
incrementally morphing into a new understanding of who he might be, as well as
might be becoming, and where the world might be going. Join him as he shares the
new tools in the toolbox he has found to be most transforming.
